We live in economic and governmental systems grounded on the principle of self-interest. The self-interest of Congress pushes back against the self-interest of the Presidents. Self-interested business men compete with each thus driving the economy forward. However, in Philippians 2:1-13, Paul argues against Christians operating in a self-interested manner – as Christ himself acted against his own self-interest. In modern America, this is perhaps one of the hardest things to hear, but it is where our faith may be pushing us.
