It is not often that the Lectionary hands a pastor both Micah 6: 1-8 (Do Justice, Love Kindness, and Walk Humbly with Your God) and Matthew 5: 1-12 (The Beatitudes) all on one Sunday. It’s like Christmas in February without the problem of wrapping paper. Trey takes in the direction of stressing God’s concern for the condition of all of God’s people as opposed to the utter spiritualization of our task as Christians in mission. In other words, one cannot separate the quest for a Godly life from the quest for a more just world. They are the same thing.
