Being Church Means Going All In

In Communist Russia, many of the great churches were turned into “museums of atheism.” While our churches may not be at as great of risk of being explicitly atheist monuments, there is still a propensity to hold so tightly onto what we have as a church that our facilities and resources are turned into a museum – an idol in and of themselves. A way of reading the Parable of the Talents, in Matthew 25:14-30, is Christ tasking us with taking risks for God, not burying what we have in the ground, and turning churches into museums. This can take many forms from building a cathedral to selling everything and worshipping in a barn. The real matter is the spirit behind our actions.
